RSPH Level 2 Award in the safe use of Rodenticides

Royal Society for Public Health From 1st October 2016, proof of competence will need to be provided in order to purchase professional rodenticides. New labels have been introduced after this date. Competence at point-of-sale can be either a certificate from an approved training course on rodent control or, until December 2017 for farmers, up-to-date proof of membership of an assurance scheme whose audited standards include a requirement for safe and effective rodent control.

CRRU is working with the UK supply chain to ensure the new rules for professional use rodenticides are understood and applied across all user sectors. Those who distribute these products, which are so important in public health, food safety and animal hygiene, have checks in place to ensure that only competent professionals can buy products under the stewardship regime.

In readiness for professional pest controllers in the private and public sectors, farmers, land managers and gamekeepers having to show proof of competence when purchasing professional use rodenticides under the CRRU rodenticide stewardship regime, a new qualification, the RSPH Level 2 Award in safe use of rodenticides has been developed.

This qualification meets all the requirements of the CRRU Training Framework for the SGAR stewardship regime and has been approved by the CRRU Training and Certification work group. It will provide learners with an understanding of why the purchase and use of SGARs is controlled and why other rodent control methods should be considered before rodenticides are used.
