Level 2 Award in The Safe Use of Aluminium Phosphide for Vertebrate Pest Control

Safe Use of Aluminium Phosphide

Since 26th November 2015, the City and Guilds/British Pest Control Association (BPCA) or Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) qualifications are the only recognised certificates taught and assessed for the sale, purchase and use of aluminium phosphide for vertebrate control.

This one-day training course is designed to prepare trainees for the Level 2 Award assessment in The Safe Use of Aluminium Phosphide (Phostoxin or Talunex) for Vertebrate Control. All staff teaching the course hold the Level 2 Award in The Safe Use of Aluminium Phosphide for Vertebrate Control and BPCA Fumigation Certificate.

The training course is aimed at people new to the use of aluminium phosphide or as refresher training to those already using aluminium phosphide without a certificate. The course covers:

  • Legislation;
  • Personal safety and contamination, prevention and first aid;
  • Environment and wildlife;
  • The product label;
  • The pesticide container, storage and transportation;
  • Application equipment, excess pesticide and container disposal;
  • Record keeping;
  • Product use, including preparation, reasons for control, non-target species, application, cleaning, storage and records.

The practical aspects of this course are taught outdoors, therefore we recommend that candidates bring along suitable outdoor clothing and footwear.

Once you have attended the training day, you will be required to carry out an individual assessment, which consists of two units. This is carried out at a later date and take approximately 2-3 hours to complete. The individual assessment is carried out by an independent City and Guilds assessor.

Unit 1. Understanding the Principles of the Safe Use of Aluminium Phosphide (Phostoxin or Talunex)

Unit 2. Carry out the Safe Use of Aluminium Phosphide (Phostoxin or Talunex) for Vertebrate Pest Control
